 Village Development Programme

In almost every developing country, and economies in transition, the number of poor people in rural areas exceeds the capacity of agriculture to provide them with livelihood opportunities. Though population growth is slowing (to varying degrees) in most of these countries, so are the opportunities for income generation especially through agriculture related activities. Hence, on the livelihood front, devoid of external interventions, in the short and medium terms the prospects of any change in the ‘income generation opportunity’ scenario are limited. This apart, accesses to better opportunities in cities are also not there for the village communities. Migration to cities no more provides better livelihood opportunities. For these reasons it is widely accepted that there is an ever increasing need to focus attention on generating sustainable livelihood opportunities for the marginalized sections of the rural and peri urban India through involvement and participation of communities.

This project aims at educating and generating know how among communities by setting up a Resource Centre for Information and Learning.  The purpose is to address the environmental needs of the village, educational, skill development, cultural, health and personal needs of the rural communities.
