Gurgaon being a new city – construction is rampant. Waste management schemes are non-existant. Hence both children of construction workers and migrant population that take to rag picking is abundant and needs to be checked for the betterment of society. This is a pilot programme initiated for these children to provide basic literacy and personal protective equipment for their safety. A few sources show that as of this year the number of rag pickers in urban Gurgaon touches almost 5,000, both children and adults. However, an exclusive survey has not been undertaken and reported.
The project focuses on providing the basic literacy, information on life skills, health and hygiene and environment.
